October 3, 2009. Boston, MA - Alimony Reform Being Considered
State legislators are considering adding a Duration criteria to the process of awarding Alimony in Divorce Court. The current law does not allow for caps on the duration of alimony to be set creating a lifelong payment. Critics have argued for years that this is an unfair and rigid and have resulted in undue hardship on the paying former spouse. Recently, the Boston Bar Association enterred the fray by voicing in favor of caps. Senate Bill 1616 is currently being debated.
